Riches!

We see this story about wealth in Mark 10:17-27 –
Mark 10:17 WPNT As Jesus set out on the road, someone came running up, knelt before Him and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
Mark 10:18 WPNT So Jesus said to Him: “Why do you call me ‘good’? No one is good except one—God.
This man knew that he needed more spiritually.
And Jesus told him this –
Mark 10:21 WPNT Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him: “One thing you lack; go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, take up the cross, and follow me.”
Mark 10:22 WPNT But he was dismayed at the suggestion and went away sorrowing, because he had many possessions.
It seems like he loved his wealth too much.
QUESTION – So is it a sin to be wealthy? Well . .
We have a Basic Principle about wealth here in 1 Timothy 6:9-10 –
1Tim 6:9 WPNT But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires, that plunge people into ruin and loss;
1Tim 6:10 WPNT because the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil; in their greediness some have been led away from the faith and have impaled themselves on many distresses.
So if you want to get rich you will face temptations.
And loving money too much leads to more evil!
OK. But you know it is entrepreneurs who have that drive to create businesses and technologies who make companies that many of us work for. So without that, many wouldn’t have jobs and any money to support their families.
And that is a Serious Thought!
Kind of in line with that Paul continues to say in 1 Timothy 6:17-19 –
1Tim 6:17 WPNT Command those who are rich in this present world not to be haughty, nor to rely upon the uncertainty of riches but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;
1Tim 6:18 WPNT they are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous sharers
1Tim 6:19 WPNT —storing up for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, so that they may lay hold on the eternal life.
And that gives us a very good overall principle about wealth, continuing to have faith in God, and being generous to help those who are poor and really in need!
Not only that, but God often increases and gives wealth and power to those whom He is using.
We see that principle in these verses –
Prov 10:21 WEBBE The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
Prov 10:22 WEBBE The LORD’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.
Deut 8:17 WEBBE and lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”
Deut 8:18 WEBBE But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is today.
And we see examples of the Lord giving wealth and power to those who love and respect and follow Him such as Job and Abraham –
Job 1:1 WEBBE There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
Job 1:2 WEBBE There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
Job 1:3 WEBBE His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.
Now the Lord allowed a server testing of Job. But afterwards the Lord blessed him with even more riches than before!
Job 1:13 WEBBE It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
Job 1:14 WEBBE that there came a messenger to Job, and said, “The oxen were ploughing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,
Job 1:15 WEBBE and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
This story tells us that Job lost his oxen and donkeys, his sheep, his camels, many servants, and all of his sons and daughters! In One Day!
Job 1:20 WEBBE Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshipped.
Job 1:21 WEBBE He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name.”
Job 1:22 WEBBE In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.
Then after this the Lord blessed Job more than before!
Job 42:12 WEBBE So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.
Job 42:13 WEBBE He had also seven sons and three daughters.
Now in Genesis 12:10 Abram was imperfect in his faith. He went to Egypt to get out of a famine. And this was after the Lord said He would give the land of Canaan to Abram’s descendants. So Abram and his people obviously weren’t going to starve. But Abram went on down to Egypt . .
And there he got into trouble and told half truth’s (half lies?) . . Oh Well . .
But even with his imperfection the Lord tremendously increased Abram’s wealth – and at the expense of the poor Egyptians!
And that’s why we see Abram so rich in Genesis 13:1-3 as he comes back North into the land of Canaan – that the Lord has promised to his descendants.
Gen 13:1 WEBBE Abram went up out of Egypt—he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him—into the South.
Gen 13:2 WEBBE Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
Gen 13:3 WEBBE He went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
Gen 13:4 WEBBE to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on the LORD’s name.
And notice that Abram seems to sense that he needs to go back to some of those early places where he had communed with the Lord before.
Gen 12:8 WEBBE He left from there to go to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the LORD’s name.
Gen 12:9 WEBBE Abram travelled, still going on towards the South.
See that “an altar to the Lord” . .
Sometimes it’s just a good idea to reconnect a little with the Lord . .

¡Riqueza!

Hola amigos! Aquí tienes un pensamiento bíblico para ti.
Vemos esta historia sobre la riqueza en Marcos 10:17-27:
Mark 10:17 RVG10 Y saliendo Él para continuar su camino, vino uno corriendo, y arrodillándose delante de Él, le preguntó: Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para heredar la vida eterna?
Mark 10:18 RVG10 Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Ninguno hay bueno, sino sólo uno, Dios.
Este hombre sabía que necesitaba más espiritualmente.
Y Jesús le dijo esto:
Mark 10:21 RVG10 Entonces Jesús, mirándole, le amó, y le dijo: Una cosa te falta: Ve, vende todo lo que tienes y da a los pobres; y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, toma tu cruz, y sígueme.
Mark 10:22 RVG10 Pero él, afligido por estas palabras, se fue triste, porque tenía muchas posesiones.
Parece que amaba demasiado su riqueza.
PREGUNTA: Entonces, ¿es pecado ser rico? Bueno…
Aquí, en 1 Timoteo 6:9-10, encontramos un principio fundamental sobre la riqueza:
1Tim 6:9 RVG10 Porque los que quieren enriquecerse, caen en tentación y lazo, y en muchas codicias necias y dañosas, que hunden a los hombres en perdición y muerte.
1Tim 6:10 RVG10 Porque el amor al dinero es la raíz de todos los males; el cual codiciando algunos, se extraviaron de la fe, y se traspasaron con muchos dolores.
Así que, si quieres hacerte rico, te enfrentarás a tentaciones.
¡Y el amor excesivo al dinero conduce a más males!
De acuerdo. Pero hay que reconocer que son los emprendedores —aquellos con el impulso de crear empresas y tecnologías— quienes fundan las compañías donde muchos de nosotros trabajamos. Sin eso, muchas personas no tendrían empleo ni dinero para mantener a sus familias.
¡Y esa es una reflexión importante!
En esa misma línea, Pablo continúa diciendo en 1 Timoteo 6:17-19:
1Tim 6:17 RVG10 A los ricos de este mundo manda que no sean altivos, ni pongan la esperanza en las riquezas inciertas, sino en el Dios vivo, quien nos da todas las cosas en abundancia para que las disfrutemos.
1Tim 6:18 RVG10 Que hagan bien, que sean ricos en buenas obras, generosos, que con facilidad comuniquen;
1Tim 6:19 RVG10 atesorando para sí buen fundamento para lo por venir; que echen mano de la vida eterna.
Y eso nos ofrece un excelente principio general sobre la riqueza: seguir teniendo fe en Dios y ser generosos para ayudar a los pobres y a quienes realmente tienen necesidad.
No solo eso, sino que Dios a menudo aumenta y otorga riqueza y poder a aquellos a quienes utiliza.
Vemos ese principio en estos versículos:
Prov 10:21 RVG10 Los labios del justo alimentan a muchos; mas los necios mueren por falta de entendimiento.
Prov 10:22 RVG10 La bendición de Jehová es la que enriquece, y no añade tristeza con ella.
Deut 8:17 RVG10 y digas en tu corazón: Mi poder y la fortaleza de mi mano me han traído esta riqueza.
Deut 8:18 RVG10 Antes acuérdate de Jehová tu Dios; porque Él te da el poder para hacer las riquezas, a fin de confirmar su pacto que juró a tus padres, como en este día.
Y vemos ejemplos del Señor otorgando riqueza y poder a quienes le aman, le respetan y le siguen, tales como Job y Abraham…
Job 1:1 RVG10 Hubo un varón en tierra de Uz, que se llamaba Job; y este hombre era perfecto y recto, temeroso de Dios y apartado del mal.
Job 1:2 RVG10 Y le nacieron siete hijos y tres hijas.
Job 1:3 RVG10 Su hacienda era siete mil ovejas, tres mil camellos, quinientas yuntas de bueyes, quinientas asnas, y muchísimos criados; y este varón era el más grande de todos los orientales.
Entonces el Señor permitió que Job fuera sometido a una dura prueba. ¡Pero después el Señor lo bendijo con aún más riquezas que antes!
Job 1:13 RVG10 Y aconteció un día que sus hijos e hijas estaban bebiendo y comiendo en casa de su hermano el primogénito,
Job 1:14 RVG10 y vino un mensajero a Job, y le dijo: Estaban arando los bueyes, y las asnas paciendo cerca de ellos,
Job 1:15 RVG10 y acometieron los sabeos y los tomaron, y mataron a los criados a filo de espada; solamente escapé yo para traerte la noticia.
¡Esta historia nos cuenta que Job perdió sus bueyes y asnos, sus ovejas, sus camellos, muchos siervos y a todos sus hijos e hijas! ¡En un solo día!
Job 1:20 RVG10 Entonces Job se levantó, y rasgó su manto, y rasuró su cabeza, y cayendo en tierra adoró;
Job 1:21 RVG10 y dijo: Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo volveré allá. Jehová dio, y Jehová quitó; sea el nombre de Jehová bendito.
Job 1:22 RVG10 En todo esto no pecó Job, ni atribuyó a Dios despropósito alguno.
¡Y después de esto, el Señor bendijo a Job más que antes!
Job 42:12 RVG10 Y bendijo Jehová la postrimería de Job más que su principio; porque tuvo catorce mil ovejas, y seis mil camellos, y mil yuntas de bueyes, y mil asnas.
Job 42:13 RVG10 Y tuvo siete hijos y tres hijas.
En Génesis 12:10, la fe de Abram era imperfecta. Fue a Egipto para escapar de una hambruna. Y esto ocurrió después de que el Señor dijera que daría la tierra de Canaán a la descendencia de Abram; por lo tanto, es evidente que ni Abram ni su gente iban a morir de hambre. Sin embargo, Abram bajó a Egipto…
Allí se metió en problemas y dijo verdades a medias (¿o medias mentiras?)… En fin…
Pero, aun con su imperfección, el Señor aumentó enormemente la riqueza de Abram, ¡y a costa de los pobres egipcios!
Por eso vemos a Abram tan rico en Génesis 13:1-3, al regresar hacia el norte a la tierra de Canaán, aquella que el Señor había prometido a su descendencia.
Gen 13:1 RVG10 Subió, pues, Abram de Egipto hacia el sur, él y su esposa, con todo lo que tenía, y con él Lot.
Gen 13:2 RVG10 Y Abram era riquísimo en ganado, en plata y oro.
Gen 13:3 RVG10 Y volvió por sus jornadas de la parte del sur hacia Betel, hasta el lugar donde había estado antes su tienda entre Betel y Hai;
Gen 13:4 RVG10 al lugar del altar que había hecho allí antes; e invocó allí Abram el nombre de Jehová.
Y observemos que Abram parece percibir que necesita volver a algunos de aquellos lugares donde anteriormente había tenido comunión con el Señor.
Gen 12:8 RVG10 Y se pasó de allí a un monte al oriente de Betel, y tendió su tienda, teniendo a Betel al occidente y Hai al oriente; y edificó allí un altar a Jehová e invocó el nombre de Jehová.
Gen 12:9 RVG10 Y partió Abram de allí, caminando y yendo aún hacia el sur.
Mira ese «altar al Señor»…
A veces, simplemente es buena idea reconectar un poco con el Señor…
