Does the Bible tell us what it will be like on the earth when Jesus returns and rules it for the 1,000 years? Yes the Bible gives us some interesting insights into His rule and life on this earth.
In Revelation 20:2-3 we see that Satan is bound for the 1,000 years. He won’t be able to tempt and mislead the nations like he does now!
Rev 20:2 ESV2011 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
But amazingly, after those 1,000 years are over Satan will be released for a time to deceive those who will listen to him!
Rev 20:7 ESV2011 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison
Now it may seem unreasonable to us that Satan would be released! I have had people refuse to believe that God will allow this to happen, even when I read these verses to them! 🙂
Again, the animal kingdom will be at peace within itself, and with mankind!
Isa 11:6 ESV2011 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.
And the lifespan of humans will be greatly increased.
Isa 65:20 ESV2011 No more shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not fill out his days, for the young man shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.
Now the Lord – Jesus Christ – Himself will be the ultimate King over all of this earth.
Zech 14:9 ESV2011 And the LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one and his name one.
Isa 2:4 ESV2011 He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
When Jesus returns to this earth He will cause some incredible changes on the earth itself! When His feet touch down on the Mount of Olives it will actually split in half running East to West! And living waters will flow from Jerusalem in both directions!
Zech 14:4 ESV2011 On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.
Zech 14:5 ESV2011 And you shall flee to the valley of my mountains, for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal. And you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.
Zech 14:6 ESV2011 On that day there shall be no light, cold, or frost.
Zech 14:7 ESV2011 And there shall be a unique day, which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but at evening time there shall be light.
Zech 14:8 ESV2011 On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea. It shall continue in summer as in winter.
UNDERSTAND – That Eastern Sea there in verse 8 is the Dead Sea today. So surely those Living Waters flowing into it will change the condition of the water of the Dead Sea!
Zech 14:8 ESV2011 On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea. It shall continue in summer as in winter.
Ezek 47:1 ESV2011 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar.
Ezek 47:8 ESV2011 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh.
Now the area around Jerusalem is mountainous now. But it seems that this area will be turned into a plain when Jesus returns there!
Zech 14:10 ESV2011 The whole land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. But Jerusalem shall remain aloft on its site from the Gate of Benjamin to the place of the former gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses.
Territory will be set out for each of the Twelve Tribes in the Millennum.
Wee see that described in Ezekiel 48. And, interestingly, the Tribe of Dan, who so many think has disappeared, is back in the land after all, and Dan gets the First Allotment of land!
Ezek 48:1 ESV2011 “These are the names of the tribes: Beginning at the northern extreme, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan (which is on the northern border of Damascus over against Hamath), and extending from the east side to the west, Dan, one portion.
An area including Jerusalem and the Temple will be set apart for the Temple and for the Government. We see this described in Ezekiel chapters 45-47.
Ezek 45:1 ESV2011 “When you allot the land as an inheritance, you shall set apart for the LORD a portion of the land as a holy district, 25,000 cubits long and 20,000 cubits broad. It shall be holy throughout its whole extent.
Ezek 45:6 ESV2011 “Alongside the portion set apart as the holy district you shall assign for the property of the city an area 5,000 cubits broad and 25,000 cubits long. It shall belong to the whole house of Israel.
And there will be an area for the prince!
Now that word prince = an exalted one, i.e. a king or sheik .
Ezek 45:7 ESV2011 “And to the prince shall belong the land on both sides of the holy district and the property of the city, alongside the holy district and the property of the city, on the west and on the east, corresponding in length to one of the tribal portions, and extending from the western to the eastern boundary
Ezek 45:8 ESV2011 of the land. It is to be his property in Israel. And my princes shall no more oppress my people, but they shall let the house of Israel have the land according to their tribes.
My understanding is that this prince is the human king over Israel. He will be a descendant of King David also. But he is, like all other human rulers on the earth at that time, subject to Jesus Christ the ultimate King over all the earth!

In Ezekiel 46 we see the kitchens where the priests cook the guilt, sin and grain offerings. And they can’t take this food back out where the people are. So this food is for the priests and their families. So we see that mankind still eats meat during the Millennium.
Ezek 46:20 ESV2011 And he said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall boil the guilt offering and the sin offering, and where they shall bake the grain offering, in order not to bring them out into the outer court and so transmit holiness to the people.”
Ezek 46:24 ESV2011 Then he said to me, “These are the kitchens where those who minister at the temple shall boil the sacrifices of the people.”
