Teach them God’s Word!

One of the main responsibilities of the Church is to teach Christians how to live as Christians. I hope we in the Church are living up to that responsibility today.
Jesus sent His disciples out to make disciples of all nations and teach them His commands.
Matt 28:19 ESV2011 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Matt 28:20 ESV2011 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
They were to teach the new disciples to observe – to guard, keep their eye on – those things that Jesus had commanded them.
Paul explains the leadership structure of the Church to the Ephesians. And teaching is an essential part of it!
Eph 4:11 ESV2011 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
Eph 4:12 ESV2011 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
Eph 4:13 ESV2011 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
Notice the position of pastors = shepherds and teachers.
They are Pastor-Teachers. Teaching is a part of the job.
And notice how Paul writes it in 1 Corinthian Church.
1Cor 12:27 ESV2011 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
1Cor 12:28 ESV2011 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
Here Paul only mentions the teaching!
So the teaching is very important!
I remember once that I was talking to a man who was more of an evangelist.
And I mentioned that I was more of a teacher. And he had such a disgusted look on his face! I was surprised. Then he said that yea we do need discipleship. But later in his preaching he mentioned to me that we need to get understanding of God down below our head level to our heart level. I thought that was a cheap shot. And I’ve wondered ever since if he really understanding the need for the leadership positions in the Church. And the real need for continued teaching all through our Christian lives.
I hope the Church isn’t drifting into thinking that we just need the excitement and emotion of great preaching. Yea . . and then maybe a little discipleship for good measure.
Paul told Timothy to establish others to teach those in the church!
2Tim 2:1 ESV2011 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus,
2Tim 2:2 ESV2011 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
And notice that Paul told Timothy that those in the Church need to be able to control their tempers and continue to teach others correcting their opponents gently! That is a job and a half there!
2Tim 2:24 ESV2011 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,
2Tim 2:25 ESV2011 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,
2Tim 2:26 ESV2011 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
Paul considered it his responsibility to teach others about Christ as well as he could!
Col 1:27 ESV2011 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Col 1:28 ESV2011 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
Col 1:29 ESV2011 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
And he told the Colossians that they needed to teach and admonish = counsel, warn each other wisely. I do see plenty of easy talk among Christians advising each other to do this or that. I don’t really believe most of it is essential to the Christian life. It’s just opinions . . lot’s of opinions.
Col 3:16 ESV2011 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Col 3:17 ESV2011 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Paul sent Timothy to the Corinthian’s to remind them to imitate Paul in how he lived as a Christian.
1Cor 4:16 ESV2011 I urge you, then, be imitators of me.
1Cor 4:17 ESV2011 That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.
Teaching the church is such an important responsibility.
We have to take it seriously and do it well with God’s help.

¡Enséñenles la Palabra de Dios!

Hola amigos! Aquí tienes un pensamiento bíblico para ti.
Una de las principales responsabilidades de la Iglesia es enseñar a los cristianos cómo vivir como cristianos. Espero que nosotros, en la Iglesia, estemos cumpliendo hoy con esa responsabilidad.
Jesús envió a sus discípulos a hacer discípulos de todas las naciones y a enseñarles sus mandamientos.
Matt 28:19 RVG10 Por tanto, id, y enseñad a todas las naciones, bautizándoles en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo;
Matt 28:20 RVG10 enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que os he mandado; y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén.
Debían enseñar a los nuevos discípulos a observar —a guardar, a mantener la vista puesta en— aquellas cosas que Jesús les había mandado.
Pablo explica a los efesios la estructura de liderazgo de la Iglesia. ¡Y la enseñanza es una parte esencial de ella!
Eph 4:11 RVG10 Y Él mismo dio a unos, apóstoles; y a unos, profetas; y a unos, evangelistas; y a unos, pastores y maestros;

Observen la función de los pastores: pastores y maestros.
Son pastores-maestros. La enseñanza forma parte de su labor.
Y fíjense en cómo lo expresa Pablo en 1 Corintios.

1Cor 12:28 RVG10 Y a unos puso Dios en la iglesia, primeramente apóstoles, lo segundo profetas, lo tercero maestros; luego milagros; después dones de sanidades, ayudas, gobernaciones, diversidad de lenguas.
¡Aquí Pablo solo menciona la enseñanza!
¡Por lo tanto, la enseñanza es muy importante!
Recuerdo una vez que estaba conversando con un hombre que tenía más bien un perfil de evangelista.
Le comenté que yo, por mi parte, me inclinaba más hacia la enseñanza. ¡Y puso una cara de total desagrado! Me quedé sorprendido. Luego comentó que, sí, que ciertamente necesitamos discipulado; pero más tarde, durante su predicación, me señaló que necesitamos hacer que nuestra comprensión de Dios descienda de la cabeza al corazón. Me pareció un comentario malintencionado. Y desde entonces me he preguntado si él comprende realmente la necesidad de los distintos roles de liderazgo dentro de la Iglesia, así como la imperiosa necesidad de recibir una enseñanza continua a lo largo de toda nuestra vida cristiana.
Espero que la Iglesia no esté cayendo en la deriva de pensar que lo único que necesitamos es la euforia y la emoción de una gran predicación. Sí… y tal vez, ya puestos, un poco de discipulado como mero complemento.
¡Pablo le instruyó a Timoteo que formara a otros para que enseñaran a los miembros de la iglesia!
2Tim 2:1 RVG10 Tú, pues, hijo mío, esfuérzate en la gracia que es en Cristo Jesús.
2Tim 2:2 RVG10 Y lo que has oído de mí ante muchos testigos, esto encarga a hombres fieles que sean idóneos para enseñar también a otros.
Y fíjate en que Pablo le dijo a Timoteo que aquellos que están en la Iglesia deben ser capaces de controlar su temperamento y seguir enseñando a los demás, ¡corrigiendo a sus opositores con mansedumbre! ¡Eso sí que es una tarea de enormes proporciones!
2Tim 2:24 RVG10 Porque el siervo del Señor no debe ser contencioso, sino afable para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido;
2Tim 2:25 RVG10 que con mansedumbre corrija a los que se oponen; si quizá Dios les dé que se arrepientan para conocer la verdad,
2Tim 2:26 RVG10 y se zafen del lazo del diablo, en que están cautivos por él, a su voluntad.
¡Pablo consideraba que era su responsabilidad enseñar a otros acerca de Cristo lo mejor que pudiera!
Col 1:27 RVG10 a quienes Dios quiso dar a conocer las riquezas de la gloria de este misterio entre los gentiles; que es Cristo en vosotros, la esperanza de gloria.
Col 1:28 RVG10 A quien nosotros predicamos, amonestando a todo hombre, y enseñando a todo hombre en toda sabiduría, a fin de presentar perfecto en Cristo Jesús a todo hombre.
Col 1:29 RVG10 Por lo cual también trabajo, luchando según su poder, el cual obra poderosamente en mí.
Y les dijo a los colosenses que necesitaban enseñarse y amonestarse —es decir, aconsejarse y advertirse— mutuamente con sabiduría. Ciertamente veo mucha charla fácil entre los cristianos, aconsejándose unos a otros que hagan esto o aquello. En realidad, no creo que la mayor parte de ello sea esencial para la vida cristiana. Son solo opiniones… muchísimas opiniones.
Col 3:16 RVG10 La palabra de Cristo more en abundancia en vosotros en toda sabiduría, enseñándoos y exhortándoos unos a otros con salmos, e himnos, y cánticos espirituales, cantando con gracia en vuestros corazones al Señor.
Col 3:17 RVG10 Y todo lo que hacéis, sea de palabra o de hecho, hacedlo todo en el nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias al Dios y Padre por medio de Él.
Pablo envió a Timoteo a los corintios para recordarles que lo imitaran en la forma en que vivía como cristiano.
1Cor 4:16 RVG10 Por tanto, os ruego que seáis seguidores de mí.
1Cor 4:17 RVG10 Por esta causa os envié a Timoteo, que es mi hijo amado y fiel en el Señor, el cual os recordará de mis caminos cuáles sean en Cristo, de la manera que enseño en todas partes en todas las iglesias.
Enseñar a la iglesia es una responsabilidad sumamente importante.
Debemos tomárnoslo en serio y hacerlo bien, con la ayuda de Dios.
