Transfigured!

We see in Matthew, Mark and Luke that Jesus was transfigured in front of Peter, James and John! What happened?
First He took them up into a mountain with Him.
Matt 17:1 ESV2011 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
Mark 9:2 ESV2011 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,
Luke 9:28 ESV2011 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
QUESTION – Why does Luke 9:28 say 8 days instead of 6 like Matthew and Mark?
NOTICE – That Luke 9:28 above does also seem to include the time that Jesus was in the mountain praying.
While Matthew 17:1 and Mark 9:2 only mention them going up into the mountain and Jesus then being transfigured.
John Gill explains it this way – “And it came to pass, about an eight days after those sayings,…. About a week after he had declared the above things, at, or near to Caesarea Philippi. The other evangelists, Matthew and Mark, say it was six days after: the reason of this difference is, because Luke takes in the day in which he delivered these sayings, and that in which he was transfigured, and they only reckon the intermediate days. . ”
It says that Jesus was transfigured or altered in front of His disciples!
Matt 17:2 ESV2011 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.
Mark 9:2 ESV2011 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,
Luke 9:29 ESV2011 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
Matthew 17:2 and Mark 9:2 both say that Jesus was transfigured = MStongs μεταμορφόω metamorphoo
1. to metamorphose, transmute (i.e. transform the fundamental nature of).
Let’s think about this definition a minute.
If Jesus fundamental nature has just been transformed then I guess that He is physically more than just a man at this moment.
THOUGHT – No wonder that Jesus face and clothes are described as just radiating like the sun!
Now Luke 9:29 describes it a different words.
But the overall bright impression seems much the same.
Luke 9:29 ESV2011 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
NOTICE – That it says the appearance of His face was altered – different (MStrongs).
And His clothes became dazzling = to be radiant (MStrongs).
It also says that Jesus face and His clothes just shown with intense bright light!
Matt 17:2 ESV2011 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.
Mark 9:3 ESV2011 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.
Luke 9:29 ESV2011 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
Matthew 17:2 mentions Jesus body, saying that His face shone like the sun!
Shone is radiated brightly per MStrongs.
So this light like from the sun just radiated out to these three disciples only a few feet from Jesus!
And Matthew says Jesus clothes were white as the light = luminousness (MStrongs).
Now Mark says that His clothes became radiant = to gleam, i.e. flash intensely (MStrongs).
And Luke 9:29 describes Jesus clothes as dazzling =
1. to lighten forth.
2. (figuratively) to be radiant (of very white garments). (MStrongs).
WOW! Now this is Jesus clothes that are described this way!
That sure sounds like an intensely bright radiating light, that maybe was even flashing to some degree!
REMEMBER – That in Matthew Jesus face is described as shining like the sun!
THOUGHT – So is Jesus whole transfigured body radiating out this intense light so strongly that it shines like this right through His clothes?
It seems like it to me!
Why are Moses and Elijah there with Jesus?
Matt 17:3 ESV2011 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
Mark 9:4 ESV2011 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Luke 9:30 ESV2011 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,
Luke 9:31 ESV2011 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Now this is interesting.
All three Gospels – Matthew, Mark and Luke – mention that Moses and Elijah are there with Jesus at His transfiguration.
And they all say that Moses and Elijah are talking with Jesus.
BUT Only – Luke – mentions what Moses and Elijah are talking to Jesus about!
Luke says that they were talking about Jesus departure.
The KJV uses decease which I think is more clear.
This decease = exodos
1. an exit.
2. (figuratively) death.
RWP explains this well saying – “Spake of his decease (ελεγον την εξοδον). Imperfect active, were talking about his εξοδυς (departure from earth to heaven) very much like our English word “decease” (Latin decessus, a going away). The glorious light graphically revealed Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus about the very subject concerning which Peter had dared to rebuke Jesus for mentioning (Mark 8:32; Matt 16:22). This very word εξοδυς (way out) in the sense of death occurs in 2Pe 1:15 and is followed by a brief description of the Transfiguration glory.”
I guess the disciples must have heard what Moses and Elijah were saying about Jesus coming departure (death) because we have this information in our Bibles now.
And look how Peter talks about this experience many years later as his own death approaches.
2Pet 1:14 ESV2011 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
2Pet 1:15 ESV2011 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.
2Pet 1:16 ESV2011 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2Pet 1:17 ESV2011 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,”
2Pet 1:18 ESV2011 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.
2Pet 1:19 ESV2011 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,
Peter never did forget that voice of the Father that he heard on that mountain!
And I think that Peter finally understood what Jesus was saying to him and the others about His approaching arrest, death and resurrection.

Reflexionemos un momento sobre esta definición.
Si la naturaleza fundamental de Jesús acababa de transformarse, cabe deducir que, en ese instante, Él era físicamente algo más que un simple hombre.

¡Guau! ¡Y son las vestiduras de Jesús las que se describen de esta manera!
¡Sin duda suena a una luz radiante de intensidad extrema que, tal vez, incluso destellaba hasta cierto punto!
RECUERDA: ¡En Mateo, el rostro de Jesús se describe resplandeció como el sol!
REFLEXIÓN: ¿Acaso todo el cuerpo transfigurado de Jesús irradiaba esta luz intensa con tal fuerza que resplandecía de esa manera a través de sus vestiduras?
¡Eso es lo que me parece a mí!
¿Por qué están allí Moisés y Elías con Jesús?
Matt 17:3 RVG10 Y he aquí les aparecieron Moisés y Elías, hablando con Él.
Mark 9:4 RVG10 Y les apareció Elías con Moisés, que hablaban con Jesús.
Luke 9:30 RVG10 Y he aquí dos varones que hablaban con Él, los cuales eran Moisés y Elías;
Luke 9:31 RVG10 que aparecieron con gloria, y hablaban de su partida, la cual Él había de cumplir en Jerusalén.
Esto resulta interesante.
Los tres evangelios —Mateo, Marcos y Lucas— mencionan que Moisés y Elías están allí con Jesús durante su transfiguración.
Y todos ellos señalan que Moisés y Elías están conversando con Jesús.
¡PERO solo Lucas menciona de qué están hablando Moisés y Elías con Jesús!
Lucas dice que hablaban sobre la partida de Jesús.
La versión KJV en Ingles utiliza el término *decease* (fallecimiento), que me parece más claro.
Este término equivale a *exodos*:
1. una salida.
2. (en sentido figurado) la muerte.
RWP lo explica bien al decir: «Hablaban de su partida (ελεγον την εξοδον). Imperfecto activo: conversaban sobre su *exodos* (partida de la tierra al cielo), muy parecido a nuestra palabra inglesa *decease* (del latín *decessus*, una partida o alejamiento). La luz gloriosa revelaba gráficamente a Moisés y a Elías conversando con Jesús sobre el mismo tema por el cual Pedro se había atrevido a reprender a Jesús cuando este lo mencionó (Mark 8:32; Matt 16:22). Esta misma palabra, *exodos* (salida), en el sentido de muerte, aparece en 2Pe 1:15 seguida de una breve descripción de la gloria de la Transfiguración».
Supongo que los discípulos debieron de haber escuchado lo que Moisés y Elías decían sobre la inminente partida (muerte) de Jesús, ya que hoy contamos con esta información en nuestras Biblias.
Y observemos cómo habla Pedro de esta experiencia muchos años después, al acercarse su propia muerte.

2Pet 1:17 RVG10 Porque Él recibió de Dios Padre honor y gloria, cuando le fue enviada desde la magnífica gloria una gran voz que decía: Éste es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.
2Pet 1:18 RVG10 Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos con Él en el monte santo.

¡Pedro nunca olvidó aquella voz del Padre que escuchó en aquel monte!
Y creo que Pedro finalmente comprendió lo que Jesús le decía a él y a los demás acerca de su inminente arresto, muerte y resurrección.
