Jesus gives us His Peace!

Hi Friends! Here’s A Bible Thought For You.

John 14:27 AKJV/PCE Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

But what is this Peace? What’s the nature of it? And how in this world can we keep our hearts from being troubled?

Robertson’s Word Pictures says this is used here in John 14:27 “. . . in the sense of spiritual peace such as only Christ can give and which his Incarnation offers to men (Lu 2:14).”

And the Angels did proclaim to the shepherds –

Luke 2:14 WEB “Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”

In John 16 Jesus is warning His Disciples about the difficulties they will have as Believers, and a hint of His coming death. And He says this to them –

John 16:33 AKJV/PCE These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

PEACE – SO it seems that this peace that Jesus gives us is when we are in Him. As we are Christian Believers, walking in faith with Him, we will have a special peace from knowing Him.

TRIBULATION – Also, Jesus is not saying that we will feel peace all the time in our earthly lives and situations. He tells the Disciples that they will have tribulation = pressure, suffering (HCSB), trouble (ISV), oppression (WEB, WPNT).

So we as Christians will have Difficulties of ALL Kinds!

That doesn’t sound too peaceful . .

COURAGE – But Jesus tells His disciples to “be of good cheer” = to have courage! Other translation’s say “take heart” (ESV2010, WPNT), “Be courageous!” (HCSB), “cheer up” (WEB).

I think the thought to take courage sounds a bit more realistic than to cheer up. It would depend on the fierceness of the opposition or trouble!

A great article “What is the peace of God, and how can I experience it?” at https://www.gotquestions.org/peace-of-God.html Downloaded 05-08-2025 says

“Philippians 4:7 refers to “the peace of God which transcends all understanding.” Most of Paul’s letters began with the words “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Peace is a state of tranquility or quietness of spirit that transcends circumstances. The term peace is described in Scripture as a gift from God and congruent with His character (1 Thessalonians 5:23; Galatians 6:16; 1 Peter 1:2; Hebrews 13:20).”

Paul says this about the peace that God gives us –

Phil 4:6 ESV2011 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Phil 4:7 ESV2011 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

NOTICE – That peace from God is beyond our understanding or describing!

God just gives it to us because we are Christian Believers! If we aren’t feeling enough of that peace I guess we can ask the Father to give us more and to help us in our circumstances.

Then Paul says this to the Collosians –

Col 3:15 ESV2011 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

And then in Ephesians 2 Paul talks about the two groups – the Jewish people and the Gentiles – and says we are both reconciled (back in relation) to God by Jesus who preached peace to us –

Eph 2:16 AKJV/PCE And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Eph 2:17 AKJV/PCE And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Eph 2:18 AKJV/PCE For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

We see examples of this peacefulness having trust in God in Acts 12:16 –

King Herod had Peter in jail and planned to kill him! And Peter was sleeping!

Acts 12:5 ESV2011 So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.

Acts 12:6 ESV2011 Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.

And another example is Paul who was in jail, after being whipped illegally! And he and Silas were singing Christian songs at Midnight! That takes some grace . . I’ll tell ya! And God breaks them out of their chains!

Acts 16:25 ESV2011 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,

Acts 16:26 ESV2011 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.

THOUGHTS – I don’t know about you Friends, But at this point I am thinking that this Peace that Jesus gives us is more a Spiritual State within our heart, mind and soul. He gives it. But we have to accept it, and not let out hearts get all agitated by the circumstances. I have to think that to be able to do that we just have to be thinking and communicating and walking with the Lord closely.

¡Jesús nos da Su Paz!

Hola amigos! Aquí tienes un pensamiento bíblico para ti.

John 14:27 RVG10 La paz os dejo, mi paz os doy; no como el mundo la da, yo os la doy. No se turbe vuestro corazón, ni tenga miedo.

Pero ¿qué es esta paz? ¿Cuál es su naturaleza? ¿Y cómo podemos evitar que nuestros corazones se turben?

La obra Word Pictures de Robertson dice que esto se usa aquí en Juan 14:27: «…en el sentido de paz espiritual como solo Cristo puede dar y que su encarnación ofrece a los hombres (Lc 2:14)».

Y los ángeles proclamaron a los pastores:

Luke 2:14 RVG10 Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres.

En Juan 16, Jesús advierte a sus discípulos sobre las dificultades que enfrentarán como creyentes y un indicio de su muerte venidera. Y les dice esto:

John 16:33 RVG10 Estas cosas os he hablado para que en mí tengáis paz. En el mundo tendréis aflicción; pero confiad, yo he vencido al mundo.

PAZ – Parece que esta paz que Jesús nos da es cuando estamos en Él. Como creyentes cristianos, caminando en fe con Él, tendremos una paz especial al conocerlo.

TRIBULACIÓN – Además, Jesús no está diciendo que sentiremos paz todo el tiempo en nuestras vidas y situaciones terrenales. Les dice a los discípulos que tendrán tribulación = presión, sufrimiento (HCSB), problemas (ISV), opresión (WEB, WPNT).

Así que, como cristianos, ¡tendremos dificultades de todo tipo!

Eso no suena muy pacífico…

VALENTÍA – Pero Jesús les dice a sus discípulos que “tengan ánimo” = ¡que tengan valor! Otras traducciones dicen “anímense” (ESV2010, WPNT), “¡Sean valientes!” (HCSB), “anímense” (WEB).

Creo que la idea de armarse de valor suena más realista que animarse. Dependería de la intensidad de la oposición o de los problemas.

¡Dios nos la da simplemente porque somos creyentes! Si no sentimos suficiente paz, creo que podemos pedirle al Padre que nos dé más y nos ayude en nuestras circunstancias.

Entonces Pablo les dice esto a los Colosenses:

Col 3:15 RVG10 Y la paz de Dios reine en vuestros corazones; a la que asimismo sois llamados en un cuerpo; y sed agradecidos.

Y luego, en Efesios 2, Pablo habla de los dos grupos: el pueblo judío y los gentiles, y dice que ambos estamos reconciliados (de nuevo en relación) con Dios por Jesús, quien nos predicó la paz.

Eph 2:16 RVG10 y reconciliar con Dios a ambos en un cuerpo mediante la cruz, matando en sí mismo las enemistades.

Eph 2:17 RVG10 Y vino, y predicó la paz a vosotros que estabais lejos, y a los que estaban cerca;

Vemos ejemplos de esta paz al confiar en Dios en Hechos 12:16:

Acts 12:5 RVG10 Así que, Pedro era guardado en la cárcel; pero la iglesia hacía sin cesar oración a Dios por él.

Acts 12:6 RVG10 Y cuando Herodes había de sacarle, aquella misma noche estaba Pedro durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas, y los guardas delante de la puerta guardaban la cárcel.

Y otro ejemplo es Pablo, que estaba en la cárcel tras ser azotado ilegalmente. ¡Y él y Silas cantaban canciones cristianas a medianoche! ¡Eso requiere mucha gracia…! ¡Te lo aseguro! ¡Y Dios los libera de sus cadenas!

Acts 16:25 RVG10 Pero a media noche, Pablo y Silas oraban, y cantaban himnos a Dios; y los presos los oían.

Acts 16:26 RVG10 Y repentinamente hubo un gran terremoto, de tal manera que los cimientos de la cárcel fueron sacudidos; y al instante se abrieron todas las puertas, y las cadenas de todos se soltaron.

PENSAMIENTOS – No sé ustedes, amigos, pero en este momento pienso que esta paz que Jesús nos da es más bien un estado espiritual en nuestro corazón, mente y alma. Él la da. Pero tenemos que aceptarla y no dejar que las circunstancias nos agiten. Creo que para lograrlo, simplemente tenemos que pensar, comunicarnos y caminar con el Señor de cerca.
