1Cor 10:23 AKJV/PCE All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
WOW That’s a Shocker!. And the Apostle Paul says it!
Now some of our Christian Brothers and Sisters are probably thinking WooHoo Party Time!
Let’s look a bit more at what Paul was talking about – A Bit More Context.
1Cor 10:19 AKJV/PCE What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
1Cor 10:20 AKJV/PCE But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
OK So Paul is talking about the Pagan’s Idol Feast’s.
And he tells us that the Gentiles actually have devils – Demonic Activity – at their Idol Feasts!
Now that is dangerous! We Christian’s shouldn’t be just going in and eating and partying with everyone at a feast like that! We shouldn’t just subject ourselves to open Demonic influence. I don’t think.
1Cor 10:21 AKJV/PCE Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
1Cor 10:22 AKJV/PCE Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
And sure enough – Paul tells us that NO! We can’t part be with the Lord and then go and eat at the Devil’s Table!
He makes it clear. The Lord does not like it when we do that!
And the Lord is Totally stronger than us.
Let’s not make Him the Lord jealous! Israel did that in the wilderness.
And that Generation didn’t enter into God’s promise to them of the Promised Land!
Num 14:22 AKJV/PCE Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
Num 14:23 AKJV/PCE Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
OK! So we better stay true to the Lord and show Him some respect!
1Cor 10:23 AKJV/PCE All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
SO Paul is talking about this food that has been sacrificed to Idols!
1Cor 10:24 AKJV/PCE Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.
1Cor 10:25 AKJV/PCE Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:
1Cor 10:26 AKJV/PCE For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.
So we need to be careful and not be a Temptation to a weaker Christian who thinks this food offered to Idols is sinful to eat.
BUT . . . Paul clearly expects that these weaker Christians will gain more maturity and realize that this food sacrificed to the Idols is just food.
And he tells the Weaker Christian to go ahead to the Meat Market and just buy the meat that they need.
NOTE – Don’t let your Weak Conscience Stop you.
UNDERSTAND – So there Are Times when we must control our Runaway Conscience!
INTERESTING!
Have you ever heard a Minister preach that truth to you??
OVERALL POINT – We must not go eat at the devil’s table!
But we also must go to the Meat Market and buy the Food – Meat – that our families need. And take it home and cook it and eat it!

Hola amigos! Aquí tienes un pensamiento bíblico para ti.
1Cor 10:23 RVG10 Todo me es lícito, pero no todo conviene; todo me es lícito, pero no todo edifica.
¡Guau! ¡Qué sorpresa! ¡Y lo dice el apóstol Pablo!
Ahora, algunos de nuestros hermanos y hermanas cristianos probablemente estén pensando: “¡Yuju! ¡Fiesta!”.
Veamos un poco más a qué se refería Pablo: un poco más de contexto.
1Cor 10:19 RVG10 ¿Qué digo, pues? ¿Que el ídolo es algo, o que sea algo lo que es sacrificado a los ídolos?
1Cor 10:20 RVG10 Antes digo que lo que los gentiles sacrifican, a los demonios lo sacrifican, y no a Dios; y no quiero que vosotros os hagáis partícipes con los demonios.
Bien, Pablo habla de las fiestas de ídolos paganas.
¡Y nos dice que los gentiles tienen demonios (actividad demoníaca) en sus fiestas!
¡Eso sí que es peligroso! Los cristianos no deberíamos simplemente entrar a comer y festejar con todos en una fiesta como esa. No deberíamos exponernos abiertamente a la influencia demoníaca. No lo creo.
1Cor 10:21 RVG10 No podéis beber la copa del Señor, y la copa de los demonios; no podéis participar de la mesa del Señor, y de la mesa de los demonios.
1Cor 10:22 RVG10 ¿Provocaremos a celos al Señor? ¿Somos más fuertes que Él?
Y efectivamente, Pablo nos dice que ¡NO! No podemos separarnos del Señor y luego ir a comer a la mesa del Diablo.
Lo deja claro: ¡al Señor no le gusta que hagamos eso!
Y el Señor es mucho más fuerte que nosotros.
¡No le demos celos! Israel lo hizo en el desierto.
¡Y esa generación no entró en la promesa que Dios les hizo de la Tierra Prometida!
Num 14:22 RVG10 porque todos los que vieron mi gloria y mis señales que he hecho en Egipto y en el desierto, y me han tentado ya diez veces, y no han oído mi voz,
Num 14:23 RVG10 no verán la tierra de la cual juré a sus padres: no, ninguno de los que me han irritado la verá.
¡De acuerdo! ¡Así que mejor seamos fieles al Señor y le mostremos respeto!
1Cor 10:23 RVG10 Todo me es lícito, pero no todo conviene; todo me es lícito, pero no todo edifica.
Entonces Pablo está hablando de esta comida que ha sido sacrificada a los ídolos.
1Cor 10:24 RVG10 Ninguno busque su propio bien, sino el del otro.
1Cor 10:25 RVG10 De todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, comed, sin preguntar nada por causa de la conciencia;
1Cor 10:26 RVG10 porque del Señor es la tierra y su plenitud.
Así que debemos tener cuidado y no ser una tentación para un cristiano débil que piensa que comer este alimento ofrecido a los ídolos es pecado.
PERO… Pablo claramente espera que estos cristianos débiles maduren y comprendan que este alimento sacrificado a los ídolos es solo comida.
Y les dice que vayan a la carnicería y compren la carne que necesitan.
NOTA: No dejes que tu conciencia débil te detenga.
ENTIENDE – ¡Hay momentos en que debemos controlar nuestra conciencia desbocada!
¡CURIOSO!
¿Alguna vez has escuchado a un ministro predicar esa verdad?
CONCLUSIÓN: ¡No debemos ir a comer a la mesa del diablo!
Pero también debemos ir a la carnicería y comprar la comida —la carne— que nuestras familias necesitan. ¡Y llevarla a casa, cocinarla y comerla!
